Much of the race info can be found on bikereg. Search Monster Cross on bikereg.com. I wil update everyone here, so please check back.
March 7th post #2
For those of you who don't know the Monster Cross Course here is a file. For those racing the mini monster, your race is the first 21 miles.... those racing the full, this shows the first 29 miles. Your last 21 will be a second loop of the first 21. Monster Cross Map
Don't these important items:
1.$5/car for parking. This money is park money that helps provide these great venues!
2. $ for some post race beer. The Friends of Pocahontas State Park will be serving Center of the Universe beer, a local craft brewer! All money raised stays with the friends group who will use it to build trails! Currently they are looking at a 15 mile expansion of the trails in the park!
3. Race numbers will go on your bars (like a mountain bike race) not your body (like a road race). Please don't alter the numbers.
4. I suggest you ride with 2 fresh tubes. Cross bikes are more likely to have issues so I ride with higher pressure (40-50psi for me personally) If you try 20s or less you will probably be fixing a flat. Again, this is your choice.
5. There will be Coqui Cyclery Tents at the 21 and 29 mile
After being at the park today I can say that the coure will be 99% free of snow. There is a small chance that a shady section might have a bit but expect to be riding on dirt rather than the white stuff.
March 5th 9pm
I know many of you got hit again with some good accumulations today. Fortunatly, the area south of Richmond received only about 1/2 inch. Prior to todays weather the trails were 99% clear of all past snow. Therefore we are exptecting a clear course with highs in the low 50s! Expect the course to be slower than past years due to all the moisture. We'll be at the venue most of the day March 6th but plan to send an update tomorrow evening.
March 5th 145pm
For all of those of you who are from north of here..... there currently is no snow on the course! We have had some race here today but no winter weather at all where I live (7 miles nw from the park). The course is softer than normal and will take a faster rider just over 1 hour longer to complete 50 miles. Those less skilled, fit or fast should add more time.
Packet pickup will take place on Sat 11-4 at Coqui Cyclery. On Sunday it will be offered from 8-9:30am at Pocahontas State Park near the start.
